Popular Books. I assume not it is not the angle but the direction you cut? It is actually a combination of tilt direction and cut direction. In the pictures below I cut two circles. The table is tilted left a few degrees for both cuts.

I make a counter-clockwise cut for the left circle and a clockwise cut for the right circle. To make things even more complicated, the direction of the table tilt reverses the relief cut. In the picture, the left counter-clockwise cut would result in the piece sinking into the wood if the table was tilted to the right.

When the table is tilted and you make a cut you are creating a cone shape. The piece will always move toward the smaller end of the cone. The distance it moves depends on the angle and the thickness of the blade. Because this is often a difficult process to visualize I just teach making a test cut before you start the actual relief cut. If the test cut does what you want then you are good to go.
